How does a Drinking Post get installed?

An approximately 3 feet x 3 feet hole is dug to a depth that is at least 18 inches deeper than the frost line. A 12 inch deep gravel bed is laid at the bottom of the hole and a cinder block is placed to put the bottom of the post on. The Post is then connected to the water line with flexible piping. Hardware cloth is laid on top of the gravel all around the Drinking Post, then the hole is backfilled and compacted. The water gets turned back on and the Drinking Post is ready for use!

How do I know if my animals are drinking enough?

You’ll know your animals are drinking because you will also see that they are urinating frequently. If more detailed monitoring is desired, ask us about installing a water meter as part of the system. We also recommend checking the Drinking Post every couple days to make sure the water is still flowing when the paddle is depressed.

How does it work?

The Drinking Post works like a frost-free yard hydrant with a bowl at the top of it. The bowl fills then the animal presses on the paddle and drains back below the frost line once the animal is done drinking. (could also attach diagram to this question)
